Helen Joyce Nance

    Graveside service for Helen Joyce Nance, 96, of Lamesa will be held Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Dawson County Cemetery with Pastor Keith Clower officiating. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Branon Funeral Home.
    A burial will follow in Dawson County Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, July 31, 2023, at Branon Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. 
    Helen passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2023, in Lamesa surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 15, 1927, in Dawson County, Texas to Howard Chapman and Edna Mae (Turnbow) Chapman. She married Delois Scitern December 21, 1946. He preceded her in death in 1994.
    Helen managed the Lamesa Bowling Alley and owned and operated the restaurant located in the bowling alley.  She also owned and operated the Donut Stop and retired a few years later.
    Helen loved spending time with her family and will be very missed by many.
Helen is survived by her children, Delores Walker and husband, Val Joe of Whitney, Darrel Scitern and wife, Stephanie of Lamesa, and Janette Turner of Lamesa; brother, Billy Chapman; and sisters, Sharon Eubanks and Beverly Cortese; 14 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; 9 great great grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; and 4 step great grandchildren.
    She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Delois Scitern, T.D. Oldham and Raymond Nance; brothers, Junior Chapman, Leroy Chapman, Johnny Chapman, and Jerry Chapman; sisters, Joann Chapman, Opal Hudson, Lavern Hope, and Wanda Derby; grandson, Shane Wood; great grandson, Wade Gardner.
    The family suggests memorials be sent to Disabled American Veterans at www.dav.org or to Crestview Baptist Church 610 N. Avenue V, Lamesa, Texas 79331.
