Gilbert Hernandez

    Funeral services for Gilbert Hernandez, 74, of Lamesa, will be held Saturday, April 1, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Templo Elim Spanish Assembly of God Church with Jerry Ancira officiating. 
    Interment will follow in Dawson County Cemetery under the direction of Branon Funeral Home. 
    The viewing will be held Thursday, March 30, 2023 from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Friday, March 31, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Branon Funeral Home.  An Inspirational service will be held Friday, March 31, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. at Branon Funeral Home Chapel.
    Gilbert passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2023, in Lamesa, TX. surrounded by his loving family. 
    He was born in Punkin Center, Texas on January 20, 1949, to Gregorio V. Hernandez and Julia (Martinez) Hernandez. Gilbert was drafted to serve in the United States Army in the Vietnam War in 1969.  He served our country for two years.  He then married Lucinda Ramirez in 1974 in San Antonio. They were married 41 years. She preceded him in death June 15, 2015. 
    Gilbert was a United Parcel Services driver for 30 years. He loved collecting antique Ford trucks, smoking briskets, barbequing, and spending time with family. Gilbert was a founding member and associate pastor for 15 years at Templo Armonia Cristiana in San Antonio and pastored Casa del Alfaraero in Von Ormy, Texas for 16 years.
    Gilbert is survived by his children, Lenard Hernandez and wife, Tammy of Lamesa, Matthew Hernandez and wife, Heather  of Lamesa, and Angelica Hernandez and Jaime Garcia of Lamesa; grandchildren, Julia, Amerie, Elizabeth, Idalyn, Lenard Jr., Obadiah, Selyna, Jesse, Timothy, Nathan, Ana, Ashley, Salvador II, Amelia and Caroline; great grandson, Malachi Cervantes; great granddaughters, Gabriella and Kai’mira Jackson; siblings, Ruben Hernandez, Abel Hernandez and Rosie Olivo; and numerous nieces and nephews. 
    Gilbert is preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Lucinda; siblings Macario Hernandez, Tiodoro Hernandez, Olivia Carrillo, Carmen Robles and Danny Hernandez.
