Gerry Brown

On Friday, September 25, 2020, Gerry Ray Brown, loving husband and father of three children, passed away at age 81.
Gerry was born on June 24, 1939, in Levelland, Texas, to Elmer Ray and Mildred Juanita (Sheehan) Brown.  He graduated from Levelland High School in 1957, and married Mary Letha (Cozart) Brown on December 7, 1961.  He entered the Army a few days later where he served as military police for two years.  After the Army, Gerry joined the Lamesa Police Department where he worked for 25 years, ending his career as the Chief of Police.
Gerry had a passion for gardening and woodworking.  He owned Gerry’s Greenhouse for several years and later managed the Northridge Retirement Center.  He loved his woodworking shop where he crafted items with his hands, especially toys for children around Lamesa.  His wooden crosses were much admired by friends and family.  Gerry also took great pleasure meeting with his 1957 Levelland High School classmates each month.
Gerry held his religious beliefs in the forefront of his life and was a member of the First United Methodist Church for many years and previous to that, Northridge United Methodist Church. He was also an active member of the Optimist Club.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to Gerry’s new found pastor and great friend, Kendall Meek and family, for all the love and support they have provided.  In addition, we cannot express how grateful we are to the outpouring of love shown to our father by the Medical Arts Hospital Emergency Department Staff and the Lamesa Fire Department.
Gerry was preceded in death by his father, Ray, his mother, Mildred, his brother, Fred, his sister, Sue Sheppard, and his daughter-in-law, Jennifer (Young) Brown.
He is survived by his wife, Letha; his three children, Jenny and spouse, Richard James, of Davidson, NC, Jana Stone and fiancée, Jeff Littlepage, of Hopewell, VA, and Jody Brown of Frisco, TX; his sister Gayle Lynch of Frisco, TX; his sister-in-law Virginia Brown of Ft. Worth, TX; and three grandchildren, Natalie James of Los Angeles, CA, Garrett Brown and Gracie Brown both of Frisco, TX.
In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to a charity of your choice.
