Gerald Parsons

    Funeral service for Gerald Douglas Parsons, 96, of Lamesa, Texas will be held Friday, June 23, 2023, at 10:00 am at Sunset Baptist Church, with Bruce Parsons officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Branon Funeral Home. 
    A burial will follow at Dawson County Cemetery.
    Visitation will be held Thursday, June 22, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Branon Funeral Home.
    Gerald was born May 26, 1927, to Lester and Minnie (Stovall) Parsons of Lamesa. He passed away Monday, June 19, 2023, surrounded by his family.  
    Gerald married Nancy Patterson January 5, 1951, at their first home in Lamesa, Texas. She preceded him in death on April 17, 2023. They met at Bryan Street Baptist Church in Sunday school. They were married for 72 years. Gerald preached and ministered at Sunset Baptist Church for many years. He touched lives by his genuine personality, his ministry of music and his loving spirit.
    He held many jobs throughout his lifetime. He managed the parts department at Roy Motor Company, was an agriculture pilot and flight instructor, and was helicopter certified. Gerald farmed, worked as a carpenter, and worked at KPET for many years, where he also ministered to the community with a Sunday morning program for over five decades. 
    He was able to realize a lifetime goal when he was given the opportunity to teach on a weekly television program on God’s Learning Channel, for several years, and wrote a weekly religous article for the Lamesa Press-Reporter for many years, after which, the writings were published in book form. 
    He was a veteran of the Army Air Force.  
    Gerald is survived by his son, Bruce Parsons, and wife, Carol of Tyler; daughters, Leigh Hoes and husband Tom of Garland, Judith Holladay, and husband, Greg of Lamesa, and Susan Branon and husband, Tommy of Midland; brother Nelson Parsons and wife, Myrna of Lubbock; sister-in-law, Juanell Harris and husband, Melvin of Lamesa, 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. 
    Gerald is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his brothers, Harold Parsons, Maurice Parsons, and Joe Parsons; and sister, Nelda Parsons.
