Fred Z. Rodriguez

    Fred Z. Rodriguez, 79, of Greeley, Colorado passed away peacefully on February 8, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family.  
    He was born in Lamesa, Texas to Aurora and Eduardo Rodriquez on October 15, 1943.
    Fred served valiantly in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969 with the 199th Light Infantry also known as the “Redcatchers.” After an honorable discharge, Fred returned to Texas from Vietnam in September 1969 and married Juanita Sanchez in Greeley, Colorado at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church.  Fred and Juanita had three children: Fred Jr., Elida, and Esmeralda.
    After working 27 years at the University of Northern Colorado, he retired from the Custodial Department as a Supervisor. In retirement, he dedicated his time to be with his grandson, Jovanni.  They would enjoy walking to the park and going for drives.  As Jovanni got older, his grandpa, Fred, would share with him – many stories about Vietnam and his life adventures.
    Fred was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He treasured being surrounded by his family and would always be ready to fire up the grill to cook.  Fred created countless great memories with his family, especially with his grandson, Jovanni, by taking many trips and outings.   He would watch television shows on politics and Westerns such as the Rifleman. He also enjoyed listening to Classic Country music.  Additionally, Fred was a Dallas Cowboys fan.    
    Fred was preceded in death by his parents Eduardo and Aurora; his brothers Eliazar and Jimmy; and his sister Dora Alonso.
    He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Juanita; their children Fred Rodriguez, Elida (Ernest III) Barela, Esmeralda (Miguel Angel) Contreras and his grandson, Jovanni Contreras.
    Services will be on Friday, February 17, 2023, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 2222 23rd Avenue, Greeley, Colorado.  The recitation of the Rosary will be at 10:30 a.m., followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 am.
