Fidel Alcorta Jr.

Fidel G. “Pempo” Alcorta Jr., 92, of Poteet, died on Friday, November 23, 2018.

A Rosary service was held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton, Texas.

Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2018 in Poteet, Texas at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church with Father Albert Lelo CICM officiating.

Interment followed at the Luna - Salazar Cemetery in Charlotte.

Fidel was born on August 27, 1926 to Fidel Alcorta Sr. and Rosa Gomez in Crown, Texas where he was raised. It was there that he met and later married Mary Casanova. Shortly after they married, the couple moved to Lamesa and raised five children there.

In the early 1960’s, Fidel went to work for Britt Well Service in Lamesa, Texas and later for Yale E. Key until his retirement in 1989. After his retirement he moved back to Poteet, Texas.

He was a man that was always working, never letting anything wait till tomorrow. He had a green thumb and could grow just about anything. He was known for selling fruits, especially strawberries and Black Diamond watermelons, along with vegetables under “his” tree on Hwy. 16 coming into Poteet.

He moved to San Antonio in 2013 to live with his son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Delia Alcorta. He was a man that knew no stranger and would help anyone in need.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fidel and Rosa Alcorta; wife, Mary; son, Danny Alcorta; son-in-law, Marcy Luna; brothers, Frank, Julian and Adan Alcorta; and sisters, Manuela Alcorta, Chavela Alva and Eva Chapa.

Fidel is survived by his daughters, Diane Luna, Belinda Sanchez and husband, Eugene, and Priscilla Alcorta; son, Tony Alcorta and wife, Delia; sister, Tommie Lentz; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 11 great great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a man that was truly loved and will be missed by all that knew and loved him.

Visitation was conducted at Hurley Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7:00 p.m.
