Eloisa Vara

    A Catholic funeral mass service will be celebrated for Eloisa Sanchez Vara, age 83, of Lamesa, TX., at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church with Father Chacko Thadathil officiating. Burial committal will follow to the Dawson County Cemetery.  
    The Vara family requires face mask for the church and funeral home. 
    Funeral arrangements were under the care and direction of Gonzales Funeral Home. 
    Viewing and visitation have been set for Thursday, September 16, 2021, and Friday, September 17, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. with Rosary prayer services starting at 7:00 p.m. at Gonzales Funeral Home Chapel.
    Eloisa passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 in Lamesa, TX. 
    She was born on May 11, 1938 in Agua Dulce, TX., Eloisa married Tomas Vara on September 16, 1953 in Seminole, TX. He preceded her in death on July 14, 2018.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Tomas Vara; her parents, Leopoldo and Casimira Villegas; her siblings, Basilio Villegas, Cornelio Villegas, Olivia Garza, Maria Baiz, Manuela Zamora, Josephine Gutierrez, and Guadalupe Sanchez, and her grandson Jay Molina.
    Eloisa Vara was a loving wife, mother, grandmother. She dedicated her life to her beloved family and her grandchildren. Her greatest joy was cooking and having all her family gathered together. She was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Her favorite pastime was playing Bingo and cards. She was affectionately known by the community as “Granny”.
    Eloisa is survived by her sons, Thomas Vara, Jr., and wife, Terry, Claudio Bara and wife, Mickey, Jesse Vara and wife, Maria, Albert Vara and wife, April, Anthony Vara and wife Dora, all of Lamesa, TX.; her daughters, Yolanda Arredondo and husband, Manuel of Lamesa, TX., Mary Zavala of Midland, TX., Delia Barrera of Lamesa, TX., Kathy Molina of Lamesa, TX., Gloria Cantu and Daniel Solis of Lamesa, TX.; her brothers, Leopoldo Villegas of Lamesa, TX, and Johnny Villegas of the State of Michigan; 38 grandchildren, 77 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren; numerous relatives and friends.
