Dorothy Griffin Bolton

    Funeral services for Dorothy Griffin Bolton, 80, of Lamesa, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at Second Baptist Church with Pastor Curtis Lloyd officiating. A burial will follow at Dawson County Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Branon Funeral Home. Visitation will be held September 11, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Branon Funeral Home.
    Dorothy passed away September 8, 2023, in Midland, Texas. She was born January 28, 1943 in Lamesa, Texas to William Thomas Griffin and Martha Ann (Sanders) Griffin.
    Dorothy married Jonny Mark Bolton in Lamesa, Texas on December 19, 1962. They were married 45 years until his passing in 2007.
    Dorothy graduated Lamesa High School and worked many years at McCall drug store in the soda fountain department. She then went to work as a nurse at the nursing home in Lamesa for many years until an injury forced her to retire.
    Dorothy was a devoted wife and mother who always made sure her family had what they needed. She was the happiest person and never met a stranger. She could strike up conversations with anyone and leave them as a new friend. She also loved to decorate her home and was always changing things around. She always said “change is good.. move it around!”
    Dorothy took pride in watching her boys play baseball and football and always attended their games. One of her life highlights was watching her grandchildren play football, baseball and basketball. She loved cheering them on and was very proud of all of them. 
    Dorothy was also a member of a group called “Tops” where she had such a great time with the ladies while making them laugh. Bingo was her favorite pastime. She loved it so much that she would load up the car, usually 4 of them and head out but always made sure daddy and us kids were taken care of first. Mom loved to play cards and any kind of games, she would keep you laughing while she was beating you at whatever game you were playing. She loved going to Ruidoso and Hobbs to play slot machines, especially Triple 7. She loved feeding and watching deer in Ruidoso with her boys. Dorothy loved to go fishing with her grandkids at the Boys Club Lake. 
She will be greatly missed.
     She was preceded in death by her parents, William Thomas and Martha Ann Griffin; her beloved husband, Jonny Bolton; grandson Jon Paul Parson; sisters, Martha Paul and husband Phillip Paul, Betty Singleton and husband Everette Singleton, Lola Canney, and Shirley Cowart and husband Leslie Cowart; sister- in-laws Kathy Griffin and Kay Griffin; and brother Bill Griffin.
     Dorothy is survived by her children, Ann Williams and spouse Kay Collis of Midland, Paula Bolton Parson of Midland, Russell Bolton and fiance’ Imelda Madrid of Lubbock, and Jon Michael Bolton of Lamesa; grandchildren, Justin Williams and wife Casey, Jamie Williams and Michael Lott, Megan Bolton and Daniel Perkins, Bethanie, Mason, Jonathan, Jaken Bolton ; step grandchildren, Heather Jones, Crystal and Nathan Valles, and Erin Black; and two great grandchildren, Jaxon and Jaylen Bolton; and step great grandchildren, Parker Collis, Landree Jones, Hendricks Champion, Asher and Jady Valles.
