Donovan Phipps

    Funeral service for Donovan Phipps, 90, of Welch will be held on Friday, September 17, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at Second Baptist Church in Lamesa with Pastor Tobey Clements officiating.
    Burial will follow to Dawson County Cemetery under the direction of Branon Funeral Home. 
    Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2021, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Branon Funeral Home. 
    Donovan passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2021, in Lamesa. 
    He was born July 5,1931 to Virgil and Clarice (Bolch) Phipps in Dawson County. He married Mary Sue Turner August 24, 1950, in Lovington, New Mexico. They were married 63 years. 
    Donovan farmed in the Welch community for most of his life.  He was a dedicated member of the Dawson County 4-H, Lamesa Cotton Growers and the Texas Baptist Men Disaster Relief.  He was also a member of the Second Baptist Church. 
    Donovan is survived by children, Vicky Huckert and husband, David of Lamesa, Glen Phipps and wife, Velda of Wolfforth, Ted Phipps and wife, Barbara of Lubbock, and Ben Phipps and wife, Robbie of Welch; and sister, Francis Barbini of Houston. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. 
    Donovan was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brother, Douglas Phipps; sister, Dortha Faye Futch; and great grandson, Kolby Huckert.
