Don Holt

Donald N. Holt passed away in Fredericksburg, Texas on September 18 at the age of 90 after a lengthy illness.
Don was born on April 24, 1932, in Lamesa, Texas, the only child of Bernie and Velma Holt.   Don attended Lamesa Schools, graduating from Lamesa High School in 1950, afterward which he attended and graduated with a Batchelor’s degree in Business Administration from Texas Tech University in 1954.
Shortly after graduation Don joined the U.S. Navy and married Francis Ann Hudspeth in 1954 who preceded him in death in 2021.  Don and Ann lived in San Francisco, California and Lewes, Delaware before returning to Lamesa in 1956 where Don worked alongside his parents at Holt Motor Company.
In 1966 Don began a farming operation in Dawson, Gaines, and Lubbock Counties which spanned many years until his retirement in 1991.
Don and Ann are survived by three children: Gary Holt (spouse Dr. Antha Jordan-Holt) of Elma, Washington, Dr. Cheryl Holt-White (spouse Len White) of Comfort, Texas, and Wayne Holt (spouse Karen Tanner-Holt) of Weaverville, North Carolina.  He is also survived by two grandchildren, Emily Griffin (spouse Chris) of Houston, Texas, and Katie Rhoden (spouse Nathan) of New York, New York.
Don and Ann both loved to travel and spent many years “seeing what was over the next hill” as Don often said.  They fished and drove their beloved RV over most of the central and western United States, Alaska, Canada as well as the Ozarks and the Mississippi valley.  He and Ann loved their pets and adopted many who invariably also travelled extensively along with them.  Don was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church in Lamesa for many years as well as a member of the Lamesa Lions’ Club.
