Renee Minton quietly left this world on Monday, February 14, 2022 after a brief and unexpected illness. She was 60 years old. During her illness, she was surrounded by her family every day.
Renee was born January 23, 1962 in Lamesa, Texas to Travis and Janette Schafer. She graduated from Lamesa High School in 1980. In 1984, she graduated from Bethany Nazarene College (now Southern Nazarene University) with a degree in Mathematics. Since that time, she served as a public school teacher until her death. She taught mostly in smaller school districts throughout Oklahoma including Shattuck, Boyton-Moton, Noble, Marlow, and Alex. Early in her career she taught at the Putnam City district in the OKC area and in Kansas City, MO. Her past 21 years were spent at Alex High School teaching both junior high and high school math.
She is survived by her parents, Travis and Janette Schafer of Tuttle, Oklahoma and her brother and his wife, Mike and Pam Schafer, of El Reno, OK. Renee and her husband, Dale, were married in 1999 and enjoyed their life together in Blanchard, OK. She is also survived by aunts, uncles and cousins throughout the Southwest.
Renee is survived by her children and was mother to her step daughter: They are Bekah Harris of Blanchard, Hannah E. Harris and her partner Rob Hillard of Houston TX, and Sam Harris and his wife Shiloh of Ada. Hannah R. Newman and her husband Lance reside in Seminole. She was an aunt to Chris Schafer and wife Jaime and daughter Jasmyne of Oklahoma City. She was also aunt to Melissa Morris and husband Tyler and son Jack of Yukon. She was grandmother to a number of children including Kaleb Minton, Joshua Minton, Cody Minton, Kenny Minton, Miriam Minton, Mackenzie Minton, Natalie Newman, and Norah Newman.
Besides her students, Renee enjoyed spending time with her close friends and family. Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations were always special. In recent years, she and her husband Dale enjoyed spending time on vacation in the camper. The last few years, they especially enjoyed vacationing in and around Chama, New Mexico with each other and her two travelling companions, Beau and Rosie.
She and her husband worshipped with Life.Church at the South Oklahoma City campus.
In lieu of flowers, we are asking that donations be made to the Alex Public Schools so that Renee can continue to care for her students’ needs as they arise.
