Billy Evans

Billy “B.W.” Evans passed away November 21, 2022 surrounded by his family and friends.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared for the Evans family by going to Billy’s obituary at www.oaklawnfunerals.com.
Billy was born on January 12, 1942 to Walter and Gladys Evans in Lamesa, Texas where he grew up with his siblings: Walter Floyd, Edward, and Sue.
After graduating high school, he worked several years for Britt Trucking and decided to join the Navy. He spent 22 years serving his country with pride and honor. Throughout his 22 years, he served as a corpsman, pharmacy technician, pharmacy school instructor, and Chief of the pharmacy. Billy was a rarity in the Navy in that while getting to travel the world, and being stationed in places including Spain and Japan, he was never stationed on a ship. He always loved telling that story. His last Naval duty station was the pharmacy at the Naval Hospital in Pensacola, Florida where he retired from the Navy in May 1990. He served another 20 years in the Civil Service, working in the pharmacy at the Naval Hospital.
Billy enjoyed many sports and activities throughout his life. He enjoyed taking his daughters fishing and coaching softball. He also enjoyed playing softball and racquetball, but his all-time love was golf. His love of golf never waned, and you would find him on the course a couple of times a week with family and friends.
Pensacola had become his home with so many friends, both military and civilian. He enjoyed spending time with his neighbors, storytelling at the American Legion, or playing trivia at the Amvets.
He was a loving father and friend. As we try to sum up Dad in a few words it is impossible. He was strong yet gentle, quiet and reserved, playful and adventurous, and most of all full of love to give. He had a unique energy that just drew people to him. He touched hearts everywhere he went.
Billy is survived by his daughters, Dana and husband Clint Stapp, Teri Evans; siblings, Edward and wife Dorothy Evans, and Sue and husband Jeff Brown.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, January 6, 2023 from 11:30 am to 12:00 pm at Barrancas National Cemetery, 1 Cemetery Road, Pensacola, FL 32508. For those attending the service, please meet at Oak Lawn Funeral Home, 619 North New Warrington Road at 10:45 am.
