Betty Geraldine 'Jerry' Tarbet

Betty Geraldine (Jerry) Tarbet, 90, of Lubbock, went to meet Jesus on Friday morning, December 24, 2021.
She was born on April 8, 1931, near Ackerly, Dawson County, Texas, to the late Frank C. Hogg and Zora (Wood) Hogg.
Jerry grew up in the Key Community and enjoyed playing basketball for the Lamesa Tornados, graduating from there in 1949.   She met the love of her life, Joe Tarbet, at the insurance office where she was employed.  They were married on December 18, 1952, on her parent’s anniversary.  Joe preceded her in death on April 10, 2019.
Joe and Jerry moved to Levelland in 1952 where they lived on the west edge of town.  Jerry worked for the First National Bank when she wasn’t riding the tractor with Joe.  Together they built a new house in 1959 on Hickory Street where she loved decorating her new home.  Through the years, Jerry could be found behind a sewing machine, outside gardening, or in the kitchen cooking and canning.  She had a unique ability to see something and recreate it without using a pattern.  Her version was usually better than what she had copied.  She also enjoyed working at the Levelland Savings and Loan.
Joe and Jerry were charter members of the Cactus Drive Church of Christ in Levelland where she enjoyed teaching Bible Classes and loved showing her hospitality to the members there.  Jerry always searched for new recipes to try.
They lived in Levelland until 1975 when they moved to Seminole.  She took a decorating class at South Plains College to help her decorate her new home there.  Jerry also took oil painting classes and became quite the artist.  She enjoyed giving her paintings to family and friends.  They attended church at Taylor Street Church of Christ in Hobbs, New Mexico where she continued to be a support to her husband as an elder’s wife.
Together, Joe and Jerry had many irons in the fire, putting pastureland into prime farmland, remodeling old buildings, establishing two subdivisions, putting in and decorating model homes to sell.
In 1992, she and Joe moved to Lubbock, where they had made their home since.  After they moved to Lubbock, Jerry decided to try a new craft and added making stain glass projects with a friend.  According to her daughters, Darla and Treva, their father said she was the household executive and was the social director.  Jerry has been a member of Sunset Church of Christ since 1992.
Those left to mourn her passing, include two daughters, Darla Blasingame and husband Joel of Lubbock, Treva Brensing and husband Albert of Wichita, Kansas; two brothers, Kenneth Hogg of Lamesa, Nelson Hogg and wife Cheryl of Lubbock; one sister, Barbara Stone of Lubbock; seven grandchildren, Brad Blasingame and wife Wendy, Travis Blasingame and wife Angel, Toby Blasingame and wife Katherine, Russ Brensing and wife Mandy, Andrew Brensing and wife Abbie, Denise McCully and husband Jon, Jason Brensing and wife Johanna; and 19 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers, Vernon and Doug Hogg.
Visitation for Jerry will be on Sunday, January 2, 2022, from 3 PM to 8 PM at the Venue on Broadway, 2202 Broadway in Lubbock.  Jerry’s family will receive friends from 3 PM to 5 PM.
Graveside services will be held at 1 PM on Monday, January 3, 2022, at Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock, followed by a memorial service at 2 PM at Sunset Church of Christ, 3723 34th Street in Lubbock.  Monty Pettyjohn and Nat Cooper will be the officiants.
Honorary pallbearers will be Brad Blasingame, Travis Blasingame, Toby Blasingame, Russ Brensing, Andrew Brensing, Denise McCully and Jason Brensing.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Jerry’s memory to the Sunset International Bible Institute (SIBI), 3723 34th Street, Lubbock, TX 79410, or to a charity of one’s choosing.
