Al Jean Hughes

Al Jean Howington Hughes was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and now Heavenly resident.  Al Jean went to be with Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior on January 25th, 2022 at the age of 83 in Lamesa, TX.
Al Jean was born to Billie and Marvin Howington on February 19th, 1938 and moved to Lamesa in December of 1951.  After graduating Lamesa High School in 1956, she briefly attended Southwestern College in Weatherford, Oklahoma before returning home to marry her high school sweetheart, Audie Duane Hughes, on August 24th, 1957.  Together they had 2 sons: Greg Duane and Mark Allen.
Al Jean, known by “Jeanie” to many of her friends, was the most perfect example of friend and patient mother.  There is not more in this world she enjoyed than her growing family and sharing family stories.  Gran Gran, named by her grandchildren, was never short on words, and her ability to share her life with others has been admired by all who surrounded her.  She valued personal connection and took pride in keeping close to those she met and called friends.  You would often find Jeanie, or Gran Gran, surrounded by stationary and working on a friendly letter.
Al Jean leaves behind her two sons, Greg Hughes and wife, Marian of San Angelo, Texas and Mark Hughes and wife, Stacey of Lamesa, Texas.  Gran Gran had 4 grandchildren: Meredith Copeland and husband, Ross, Taylor Hughes and wife, Kelsye, Damon Hughes and wife, Sarah, and Randi Brackett and husband, Brian.  She was also loved by her nieces, nephews, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Al Jean is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Audie Hughes, parents Billie and Marvin Howington, and brother, Raymond Howington.
The memorial service for Al Jean Hughes will be held in Lamesa, Texas at First Presbyterian Church on January 28th, 2022 at 10:30 a.m.
The family suggests memorials to the Wounded Warrior Project or Home Hospice.
Arrangements are under the direction of Branon Funeral Home of Lamesa, Texas.
