Important dates announced for constitutional amendment election

Texas Secretary of State Jane Nelson reminded Texans to prepare for the upcoming constitutional amendment election on November 7. “Texans will have the opportunity to vote on 14 proposed amendments to the state constitution, and some local governments will also hold elections this November,” said Nelson. “Now is a good time to take note of upcoming election deadlines and prepare.” Important dates include: October 10 - The last day to register to vote in time for the November 7 election October 27 - Last day to apply for ballot by mail October 23 - Early voting begins November 3 - Last day of early voting November 7 – Election Day, polls open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Vets can now access State Parks passes

Thanks to a recent bill passed during the last legislative session, activeduty military, honorably discharged veterans and the immediate family members of a service member who died while serving now qualify for one of three new Parklands Passports. These passports are available at no cost and grant the cardholder free entry to all Texas State Parks.

DPS issues reminders for drivers to be safe now that school is in session

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) reminds drivers to use extra caution in-and-around school zones and neighborhoods with the new school year underway. This includes knowing state laws about driving near stopped school buses and not using cell phones when you’re behind the wheel.
