_ On May 20, 1609, Shakespeare’s sonnets were first printed in London by “procurer of manuscripts” and publisher Thomas Thorpe. While it is unclear how he acquired the manuscript, it may have been an illegal copy, and was apparently issued without the Bard’s permission, causing some damage to Thorpe’s reputation.
The three incumbents running for spots on the Lamesa school board and city council retained their seats in Saturday’s election, with a former member returning to the school board.
Lamesa’s downtown area soon will be getting a facelift in several locations with the assistance of local economic development funding.
Izabella Arismendez is the valedictorian of this year’s graduating class at Klondike High School, and Bella Stevens is salutatorian.
Leslie Armendariz is the valedictorian and Nevaeh Rodriguez is the salutatorian for the 2023 graduating class at Dawson High School in Welch.
Eleven Sands High School seniors will accept their diplomas during graduation ceremonies beginning at 8 p.m. on May 19 in the school auditorium.
