Directors of the Dawson County Hospital District have called a special meeting this Friday to consider cancelling a planned election for one position on that board. Freddy Vargas, who had been seeking the Precinct 3 seat on that board, announced on Monday that he is withdrawing from that race, according Letha Stokes, chief executive officer of the hospital district. “For medical reasons, I wish to withdraw my name from the race for Precinct 3 Hospital Board on May of 2019,” Vargas said in a one-sentence written notice submitted to Stokes.
