Permits for six new oil drilling operation in Dawson County have been approved by the Texas Railroad Commission during the past two months. Four of those are for horizontal wells. Yates Industries, based in Santa Fe., N.M., received a permit to drill the Alta 20 No. 2H as a horizontal well about four miles southeast of Welch. The surface location will be about a mile east of Highway 137 and a short distance south of County Road 6.
