Lamesa school board members voted Tuesday to move forward with a plan to borrow up to $1.5 million from the state to replace 159 rooftop air conditioning units across the district.
That expense will be recovered by reducing the district’s utility costs by more than 20 percent over a period of about 14 years, according to Jim Brown with Energy System Associates.
Brown said a review indicated the district’s utility expenses per square yard are about 21 percent higher than the average for this area.
