With the filing deadline almost at hand, only one contested race has developed for any of the seven elected Dawson County positions which will be on the ballot for the 2020 elections. The filing deadline is 6 p.m. this coming Monday. The only local position where more than one candidate has thrown a hat into the proverbial political ring, as of late Friday, is for the job of Dawson County Commissioner of Precinct 1. Three-term incumbent Rick Minjarez of Lamesa is seeking re-election to that position as a Democrat and has drawn a Republican challenger in Ackerly businessman David Sanderson.
