Last month’s action by the Dawson County Hospital District board of directors to extend the contract of Chief Executive Officer Letha Stokes drew fire here Thursday. Board members were presented with a petition, reportedly bearing 700 signatures, asking the board to reconsider its action and not grant Stokes a contract extension. Local attorney Carter Schildknect claimed the board’s action last month was a violation of state law regarding open meetings of governmental bodies.
