Oil drilling activity continues to increase in Dawson County, with the latest well-site planned just about five miles southwest of Lamesa. Halvey Energy of Midland received a permit in late March from the Texas Railroad Commission to drill the King No. 1 about a mile and a half south of FM 2052 and just west of County Road H. A vertical drilling operation, that well is scheduled to be taken to a depth of 8,700 feet.
