Midland-based Beach Exploration has obtained a permit from the Texas Railroad Commission for a new drilling operation about 4.8 miles northeast of Lamesa. The No. 1 King is scheduled to be drilled to a total depth of 8,100 feet. A plat map submitted along with the permit application shows the site to be about four miles east of U.S. Highway 87 and about a half-mile south of County Road 17, the paved road that runs along the north side of the Lamesa Municipal Airport.
