County, city sees rise in rebates

Lamesa and Dawson County continued their winning streak with increased sales tax rebates received Monday from the Texas Comptroller’s Office in Austin. That revenue comes from local taxes collected by merchants on taxable sales. The local tax revenue is sent along with state sales tax revenue to the state comptroller’s office, which then returns the local portion to the city, county or other entity for which it was collected. July’s reimbursement represents purchases made in May. The City of Lamesa’s rebate of $131,815 is 0.65 percent more than the $130,960 collected last July.
