The City of Lamesa is working to exterminate prairie dogs at the city’s solid waste landfill in order to keep that property up to date. Lamesa Public Works Director Robert Ramirez said the city uses chemicals to exterminate the rodents at the landfill in order to meet regulations set by Texas Health & Safety Code. According to Ramirez, the prairie dogs are a “nuisance” that the city has dealt with periodically for about two years on a regular basis.
