A total of 56 different church congregations worship weekly in Dawson County, according to the last count on the church directory published in the Press-Reporter. Many people view that number as being abnormally high for a small, rural community. First United Methodist Church Pastor Scott Seymour said there are 1,000 congregates in church on Sundays in Dawson County, but 9,000 others who are not in church.
