As with just about everything else the past year, the COVID-19 pandemic has had a major impact on the operation of Lamesa’s unique non-profit movie theater. State regulations forced Lamesa’s Movieland Theater to close its doors for 11 weeks between mid-March and early June. Then, after reopening for only about a month, the theater closed again for another six weeks while waiting for new movies to be released. Now COVID-19 is impacting the annual membership drive and appreciation dinner hosted each February by Friends of Movieland.
