Back-to-school success

The start of the school year is an exciting time for many! Research shows that eating a healthy diet and participating in physical activity can help learning skills, attitudes, concentration, and attention which is not only helpful for students in the classroom but adults too. Store manager Eleanor Cantu wields the large scissors to cut a ribbon Thursday morning marking the official grand opening of the Burkes Outlet store here, which actually opened its doors last Monday. Filling the space left vacant in the Pioneer Square Shopping Center when Bealls pulled out a few years ago, Burkes Outlet offers a variety of merchandise ranging from clothes and shoes to children’s toys, home accents, and beauty accessories. A longtime Lamesa resident, Cantu managed the Bealls store here for about 10 years and has been working with Burkes Outlet in various locations during the past year. Joining Cantu and her Burkes Outlet employees – including three who previously worked with her at Bealls – were Burkes officials from other stores and representatives of the Lamesa Area Chamber of Commerce and Lamesa Economic Development.
