The cab of an 18-wheeler is wedged beneath electrical transformers and between two utility poles following a collision before 6:30 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of State Highway 137 and FM 828 south of Lamesa. The truck, carrying two canisters of sand, reportedly was heading west on FM 828 and collided with a welding truck which was going south on Hwy. 137. The overturned welding truck can be seen in the background in a cotton field at the southeast corner of the intersection, while one of the sand canisters that toppled from the trailer onto the highway is shown on the left. From the damage at the scene it appeared someone easily could have been killed in a collision involving a sand-hauling truck and a welding truck south of Lamesa early Tuesday morning.
