A funeral service for Mary Sue “Momma Sue” Phipps, 82, of Welch, was held on Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at 2:00 p.m., at Second Baptist Church in Lamesa.
Burial followed in Lamesa Memorial Park under the direction of Branon Funeral Home.
Visitation was held on Monday, April 8, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Branon Funeral Home.
She passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2013 in Lubbock.
She was born on May 27, 1930 to Everett and Carrie Mae (Keener) Turner in a half dugout near the Lou community. She attended school at Lou and graduated from Dawson Schools in Welch. She attended Texas Tech before marrying Donovan Phipps of the Grandview community. They got married on August 24, 1950 in Lovington, New Mexico. She and Donovan farmed in the Welch community for many years.
She enjoyed canning and freezing the produce of a large garden, jigsaw puzzles, crocheting, restoring old trunks, and being with her family.
She is survived by Donovan, her husband of more than 62 years; their children, Vicky Huckert and husband, David, of Lamesa, Glen Phipps and wife, Velda, of Wolfforth, Ted Phipps and wife, Barbara, of Lubbock, and Ben Phipps and wife, Robbie, of Welch. She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Ted Turner; sisters Adealia Weeks, and Mattie Lou Drennan; and a great-grandson, Kolby Huckert.
