John Ramos said he had two phone calls to make on Monday after being named the lone finalist to become the next superintendent of the Lamesa Independent School District.

The first would be to his wife, Jaqueline, letting her know how things had finally come out after weeks of prayer about the situation.

Then he would be contacting his parents, Lamesa residents Pablo and Ramona Ramos.

He had not even told them he was in the running for the superintendent’s position.

Rumors during the past week had identified John Ramos, the high school principal, as the most likely candidate for the job.

But few people outside a core group seemed certain until Brandi DeLong made the motion at Monday’s school board meeting to name Ramos the lone finalist.

Ramos was quickly approved without further discussion on a 4-0 vote that came after board members had spent about 15 minutes behind closed doors for final deliberations.
