Benefit softball tourney set Saturday for Levi Lucio

Sports - Published on: July 04, 2012

A co-ed softball tournament this Saturday at the Forrest Park softball field will benefit Levi Lucio.

Lucio, the 19-year-old son of Paul Lucio and Sandra Cerna, was seriously injured in a one-vehicle rollover about 12 miles south of Lamesa on May 22. Lucio was traveling to work in Stanton when he lost control of his vehicle. He suffered severe injuries to his head, neck, ribs, lungs, back and a broken arm.

Doctors have only given Lucio a 10 percent chance of walking again but, since moving to a rehabilitation center in Lubbock, Lucio is making progress.

The entry fee for the tournament is $120 per team. A hamburger meal will be offered at $5 per plate and will include a burger, chips and a drink.

“We would like to extend our sincere thanks for the many acts of kindness and prayers that were very much appreciated,” said Cerna.

Lucio is the grandson of Baldermar and Gloria Cerna and Ofelia Lucio and the late Juan Lucio.

For information in regard to the Levi Lucio Co-ed Softball Tournament, contact Laura Marquez at 806-332-9000, BiBi Lucio at 432-894-9310 or Michael Lucio at 432-813-6540, after 5 p.m.
