Babe Ruth 14- and 15-year-old all-stars advance to state

Sports - Published on: July 04, 2012

The Babe Ruth 14- and 15-year-old all-star team has advanced to the state tournament after coming in fourth place at its district tourney held last weekend.

That state tournament will be held July 13-15 in Dumas.

“I’m very proud of these kids. They made some great plays during all of the games. Our pitchers did an excellent job for us,” said Coach Kirk Jones.

Last Thursday Lamesa beat Olton, 5-3, with Sterling Wilke on the mound.

Gilbert Valdez was the starting pitcher for the Seminole game on Friday. Despite a valiant effort, Lamesa came up short, 23-10, in that game.

A win against Sudan on Saturday put the Lamesa team back in the running for a play-off berth. Roger Martin was the winning pitcher with a score of 15-8.
