More people have signed up here this week for both the parade and pageant, which are only two of the many events planned as part of the Independence Day Celebration here on Wednesday.

Sandra Adams, president of the Lamesa Area Chamber of Commerce, said additional calls and inquiries had been received about the activities at the Chamber office in the early part of this week.

“If someone wants to enter an event or wants a vendor booth space, we’ll do everything we can to see that it happens,” Adams said. “We’re not going to turn anybody away, if at all possible.”

The Chamber is coordinating the holiday celebration that will be held in the vicinity of Forrest Park and The Plaza area located just west of Forrest Park Community Center.

A wide assortment of events and activities are planned for the day, beginning at 8:30 a.m. and ending at 9 p.m., just in time for the community fireworks display to light up the skies.

That professional fireworks display, which will be staged from an area near the Lamesa Rodeo Arena southeast of Forrest Park, is expected to get underway about 9:15 p.m.
