Independence Day Celebration still taking entriesFront Page - Published on: June 30, 2012 Plans were being finalized Friday for the Independence Day Celebration here on Wednesday, but entries still will be accepted Monday in almost every activity scheduled.
“We want as many people involved as we can get and we’re not going to turn anybody away, if at all possible,” Sandra Adams, president of the Lamesa Area Chamber of Commerce, said on Friday afternoon. “If someone wants to enter an event or wants a vendor booth space, we’ll do everything we can to see that it happens.”
The Chamber is coordinating the holiday celebration that will be held in the vicinity of Forrest Park and The Plaza area located just west of Forrest Park Community Center.
A wide assortment of events and activities are planned for the day, beginning at 8:30 a.m. and ending at 9 p.m., just in time for the community fireworks display to light up the skies.
That professional fireworks display, which will be staged from an area near the Lamesa Rodeo Arena southeast of Forrest Park, is expected to get underway about 9:15 p.m.
“So plan to come early and stay late!” Adams said. “Bring your lawn chairs and come join the fun all day!”
