As crazy as it might now sound, it was a recent trip to the principal’s office that helped spark Kurt Pierce’s return to his passion.
Pierce started out his teaching career here some 31 years ago, but after coaching here for the first 28 years he got into school administration as a high school assistant principal some three and a half years ago.
It was a recent visit from Golden Tor Athletic Director Gregg Moreland that helped lure Pierce back to the sidelines.
“It went from just an invitation one day from Coach Moreland to get back into coaching and he stayed at it,” Pierce recalled. “I’m going to appreciate his efforts forever for making all of it happen.”
Pierce’s move back to the sidelines became official at Thursday evening’s Lamesa Independent School District board meeting. Pierce even got his old job back as the Lamesa Middle School boys’ athletic coordinator.
