Pick, Draw Roping slated here Saturday morning

Published on: Jul 28, 2010

The 15th annual Pick and Draw Roping, sponsored by the Lamesa Rodeo Association, will be held this Saturday at the Lamesa rodeo grounds along South Houston Avenue.

Originally scheduled over the Fourth of July holiday, the roping had to be rescheduled for later this month.

Saturday’s roping will kick off a week’s worth of rodeo events in Lamesa, which includes the Lamesa Rodeo Association’s county roping on Saturday evening and the 61st annual Lamesa Rodeo the following Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

The Pick and Draw Roping traditionally draws participants from all over this area of West Texas as well as from neighboring states.

Books for the Pick and Draw Roping will open at 9 a.m. Saturday. Roping competition will begin at 10 a.m. with the ropers progressing after each catch, until they have roped four.

Ropers are asked to bring one partner and draw for three other partners in the draw pot roping, which has a #10 cap, said Richard Garcia, local coordinator of the event. Price of registration is $120 per person.
