Funeral services for James Jesse Cortez, 32, of Midland and formerly of Lamesa, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at The Faith of God in Christ Church with Pastor Ramiro Lumbreras officiating.
Burial followed at Dawson County Cemetery under the direction of Gonzales Funeral Home.
Mr. Cortez died on Friday, March 5, 2010, in Midland.
He was born on December 16, 1977 in Lamesa. He married Ann Marie Franco on January 7, 2001 in Lamesa.
Preceding him in death was his grandfather, Jesus Perez.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Marie Franco of Midland; a son, Joe Angel Cortez of Lubbock; a daughter, Leslie Nicole Cortez of Midland; a stepson, Juan Hernandez Jr. of Midland; a stepdaughter, Desirie Hernandez of Midland; his father, Robert Cortez of Big Spring; his mother, Alicia Perez, and stepfather, Ramon, of Lamesa; three sisters, Gracie Mancha and husband, Jorge, of Midland, and Nora Gutierrez and husband, Joey, of Lamesa and Corina Cortez and Austin Smith of Lamesa; four brothers, Robert Cortez, Jason Cortez and wife, Margarita, and Andy Cortez, all of Lamesa, and Steve Cortez of Slaton; a half-brother, Frankie Cortez of Big Spring; and a grandson, Josiah Angel Hernandez of Midland.
