Jerry Slaughter, 75, of Midland, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2014. He was born on July 16, 1938, to his parents, Altha Jewel Bessant and Ralph Bert Slaughter, in Lometa, Texas.
He married Elva Lenora Light on April 8, 1960. Together, they lived most of their married lives in Lamesa, Texas, moving to Midland, Texas in 1995.
Jerry served in the Naval Reserves in 1956 and also served in the United States Army from December 1956 to December 1959, where he was stationed in France. He worked as a supervisor for GTE for over 27 years. He had a passion for hunting and fishing and was an avid golfer. He was a member of the Downtown Church of Christ in Lamesa, Texas, and was born again preceding his death.
He is survived by his four daughters, Vickie Ripley and husband, Tony, of Maypearl, Texas, Pam Cunningham of Tyler, Texas, Tanya Alexander and husband, Gene, of Midland, Texas, and Kristi Latimer and husband, Larry, of Lamesa, Texas; sisters, Betty York of Odessa, Texas, and Wanda Burns and husband, Bill, of Brady, Texas; brothers, Larry Slaughter and wife, Judy, of Andrews, Texas, and Steve Slaughter and wife, Susan, of Belton, Texas; and 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elva Light Slaughter; and brothers, Bert and Gary Slaughter.
A visitation was held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Ellis Funeral Home in Midland, Texas.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 10, 2014, at Cherokee Cemetery in Cherokee, Texas. Services are entrusted with Ellis Funeral Home.
