Hospital board hears complaint about ER incident

A Lamesa man’s brush with death earlier this month has prompted a complaint about the care provided in the emergency room at Medical Arts Hospital.
Carter Schildknecht, who serves as state district judge here, aired the issue in both open and closed sessions with members of the Dawson County Hospital District’s board of directors during their regular meeting this past Wednesday.
Her husband, Ellis Schildknecht, who suffered a heart attack in early March, was present but made no comments during the portion of the meeting that was open to the public.
Carter Schildknecht said their experience in the emergency room has caused her to understand why she previously has heard talk here about problems with care provided in the emergency room.
“Is this the reputation that you want our hospital to have in this community?” Schildknecht asked at the conclusion of her presentation in open session.
Through a speaker phone set up in the meeting room, an attorney for the hospital said the hospital had a response to the Schildknechts’ complaints but would not be able to make that response public.
